About U matter

U matter stands as a beacon of hope for burn survivors and their families across South Africa. We understand the journey of recovery and healing, and we’re here to offer support, encouragement, and connection. Through the power of storytelling, we aim to inspire hope, ignite possibilities, and build self-esteem among burn survivors and their loved ones.

Our Story

In the wake of burn trauma, families often feel isolated and overwhelmed. Umatter emerged as a parent and peer support group, recognising the need for solidarity and understanding in the burns journey. Our holistic approach embraces everyone affected by burns—survivors, parents, siblings, friends, and communities. With a mission to ensure that no burn survivor in South Africa ever feels alone, U matter fosters connections, empowers individuals, and models a lifestyle of courage and hope.

Our Services

  1. Support groups currently operating at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, with plans to expand to other hospitals soon.
  2. One-on-one emotional support and counselling.
  3. Grief counselling.
  4. Educational programmes: Community outreach targeting local clinics, schools, church organisations, and general communities.
