If you share the sentiment that there’s no greater joy than that of helping those in need, then you can volunteer at the Smile Foundation to help the countless numbers of children in South Africa born with facial conditions including cleft lip and palates, Moebius syndrome and burn victims. We have a number of ways in which you can help us bring smiles to these children and, whichever way you choose, we appreciate your involvement and so do they.
Volunteering is not the only action you can take to help out – you can also refer a patient suffering from conditions such as a cleft lip and palate or make a donation. These actions go a long way in transforming the lives of children who would otherwise not have an avenue available for assistance.
As a volunteer you will be involved in different activities which will see you interacting with the children or helping out with the preparation of Smile Weeks and other events. You can also get your family, friends and colleagues to volunteer as well. With seven academic hospitals around the country, you need not travel far to find a facility where you can help out.
To make a donation, all you need to do is fill out a form in a few easy steps. Any contribution you make will be very much appreciated, as it will go into providing a child with the gift of surgery, in purchasing new equipment, and training of surgeons and registrars. When you refer a patient you also play your part in helping those who are unable to receive medical treatment due to various reasons, such as their financial situation. You can refer a family member, friend or anyone you know that needs our help.
“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” Mother Teresa
With this beautiful quote, we urge all of you to do your part and volunteer, refer a patient and/or make a donation – whatever you choose to do, remember to share a smile in the process.
